The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland Comes to Wilmington, NC

The Wilmington Concert Association will be hosting the Band of the Irish Guards and the Drum, Pipes and Dancers of the Royal Regiment of Scotland this month! This is the first year they will tour the United States and New Hanover County, NC custom home builder Mark Johnson Custom Homes encourages those in the Cape Fear area to attend the concert at the Kenan Auditorium at UNC-Wilmington. “Kiplinger’s ranks four-year schools that combine outstanding economic value with top-notch education. For 2010, UNCW is ranked 27th nationally as a ‘best value’ for in-state students and 25th for out-of-state students.
In North Carolina, Kiplinger’s ranks UNCW as the fourth best value in public education for 2010. Kiplinger’s has rated UNCW in the top 5 public universities in the state since 2003. Other UNC institutions that made this year’s rankings were UNC Chapel Hill, NC State and Appalachian State.
Of UNCW’s 15 peer institutions, which are determined by the UNC Board of Governors, 10 appear in the 2010 listing of Kiplinger’s top 100 best values in public colleges. The top four best values among UNCW’s group, comprised of public master’s institutions, are James Madison University, the College of New Jersey, Truman State University and UNCW.
Selected from a pool of more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities, schools in the Kiplinger 100 were ranked according to academic quality, including admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratios and four- and six-year graduation rates, as well as on cost and financial aid. For the twelfth consecutive year, UNCW was named one of the top 10 public master’s universities in the South in the annual college rankings by U.S.News & World Report. UNC-Wilmington Seahawk Fanfest!

Wilmington, NC new home builder Mark Johnson Custom Homes encourages you to join the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Athletics Department for Seahawk Fanfest on Saturday, November 7th, 2009. This FREE event will take place from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot next to Trask Coliseum (rain location is inside Hanover Gym).
Seahawk Fanfest will include inflatable games and performances by The School Boys, the UNCW Dance Team, the UNCW Cheerleaders and the UNCW Drumline. Seahawk Fanfest will also include appearances by UNCW student-athletes and a special appearance by Sammy C. Hawk.
After Seahawk Fanfest, but sure to stick around when the Men’s Basketball team hosts North Greenville at 7:00 p.m. in Trask Coliseum. Youth tickets for the game will be just $5.00 when purchased with an adult ticket on the day of the game only.

Environmental Sustainability Efforts Yield $2 Million in Savings at UNC Wilmington

Jacksonville, NC home builder is proud to share that local our university, UNC Wilmington, met the state deadline for reducing energy consumption over eight months early! Per Senate Bill 668, all North Carolina agencies, including universities, were mandated to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent by July 2010. The University of North Carolina at Wilmington announced this month that it dropped its usage by 28 percent over the past six years, and 11 percent in 2009 alone.
“As a university, we’ve done well in reducing our energy consumption and costs,” said Tom Freshwater, physical plant director for UNC Wilmington. “We’ve cut our energy costs by almost one-third over the past six years, which is a significant savings in both energy and dollars.”
UNCW met their energy savings goal by:
• Building temperature setbacks at night and during weekends and holidays
• Improving the heating/air conditioning controls at the Center for Marine Science
• Standardizing a uniform temperature in buildings across campus
• Replacing/upgrading HVAC equipment and controls in Kenan Auditorium, Dobo Hall, Cameron Hall and Friday Hall on the main campus
• Installing high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) heat pumps in residence halls
